The 8 million ton problem…that’s growing.

Did you know that people around the world buy a total of one million plastic bottles per minute? That’s almost 1.5 billion plastic bottles per day!

But only a small fraction of those actually get recycled. In fact, 8 million tons of plastic ends up in the ocean annually.

Plastic waste causes harm to humans, animals and plants through toxic pollutants, and can take hundreds, or even thousands of years to break down—so the environmental damage is long-lasting. A lot of plastic could be eliminated if more people simply used a refillable bottle.

Reducing waste and helping the environment is extremely important to us, it’s why we will never make vinyl or plastic flooring. Besides, real wood flooring lasts longer than plastic, it looks better, and is better for the environment.

Where do we even start?

8,000,000 tons of plastic per day, thrown into the ocean, is an unimaginably huge amount of toxic waste, so big it’s almost impossible to suppose there’s anything any one person can do to make a difference. But—really—even very little changes can add up to a big deal.

Something as small as choosing to use a reusable water bottle instead of a disposable one can have an enormous impact. Every plastic bottle not used is one less to end up polluting the environment. As a company, we have made a conscious decision to NEVER contribute to the problem of plastic waste by only making things that are natural, recyclable and reusable; Real hardwood flooring—never, ever plastic or vinyl. If we all chip in, the small things begin to add up.

Here are 3 things we can all do to help fix the problem:

Reduce.

The most effective way to reduce waste is to not create it in the first place. From beauty products to grocery bags to water bottles and our daily cup of coffee; plastic is present in every aspect of our lives. 1.5 billion plastic bottles per day is too many and unnecessary. Many vinyl flooring products are non-recyclable and end up in landfills. We can all make a huge positive impact with very little effort just by reducing what we use.

Reuse.
